Homeschool Resources to help you undertand how to teach your kids at home.

Balanced Literacy
Carl's Corner

Cherry Carl, a retired language arts and literacy teacher, offers AMAZING literacy resources for free that would earn her millions if she chose to sell them. This site has so much stuff on it that it takes a lot of looking around, but it is WELL worth your time. If you are an early grades teacher or a homeschooling mom with young learners, this is the site for you!

HINT: Use the version called "Illustrative Examples", which actually shows you an example of an activity you could use to meet each APS outcome.

B.C. Performance Standards for Writing

As a homeschooling facilitator for my local school board, this has been one of my favorite resources. You can see and download samples of different genres of kids' writing at each grade level. You get to see samples of writing at, above and below what is expected for a child at each grade level. Even though this document is put out by the B.C Ministry of Education, it is a very accurate guide to what would be expected of your child if he or she attended day school in your area of Canada.
