Usborne Literacy Fairs

What is an Usborne Literacy Fair?
The goal of an Usborne Literacy Fair is to earn free books for your school, library or educational group.
How do kids benefit?
Our Literacy Fairs promote a love of reading. To that end, we do not sell anything but our wonderful children's books - there are no pencils, posters or doodads for kids to spend their book money on.
How does the organization benefit?
When sales are $500 or higher, Usborne Literacy Fair returns 30% of sales dollars back to the organization in the form of award-winning Usborne Books. Sales under $500 receive 10% in free books.
How much work for school staff is a Literacy Fair?
As your Usborne Books consultant, I do most of the work in administering your Literacy Fair.
Here's what I do...
- bring an extremely wide and varied selection of our wonderful Usborne Books and set up at your school so that most of your sales are cash-and-carry
- remain on-hand throughout the book fair to assist kids, parents, teachers and library staff with their selection, and to answer questions and offer assistance as needed
- do special orders for buyers who want items from the catalogue
- at the end of the Literacy Fair, count the money collected and do your free-book calculation
- individually package any special orders and deliver to the correct staff member or homeroom teacher
I ask the school and teachers to...
- heavily promote the event (we provide materials for this purpose) for a couple of weeks in advance of the Literacy Fair start date
- remind kids a few times about the upcoming event
- if possible, give kids time during the day to come shopping
